As the seasons change, we are struck by the continued realization of our interconnected relationships and community. You have honored us here at Trout Insurance with your confidence and trust. We appreciate this and are grateful.
The recent storm in the form of Hurricane Helene has shaken our community to its core. All of us have been affected, both small and large, sometimes with irreplaceable tragedy. It is now our work to move beyond this. We would like to support three organizations working hard to build back. Therefore, in recognition of the gratefulness we feel for your trust in us, we will make a donation of $20 to one of the following organizations to accomplish that goal. As you well know, Jan & Dave have been enmeshed in the music, the community, the spirit of Grateful Dead... well... forever. "Sugar Magnolia", a beautiful love song, was and is the theme of our wedding and marriage. Dave says there’s a "dead tune" for any occasion, and so it is here as well. Lyrics by Robert Hunter, music by Jerry Garcia, this one reflects the poignant moment we are in:

This is our work together as individuals and as a community now,
…to "Build to Last... Built to Try".
The name "Grateful Dead" has its origin as a series of ancient European folktales. A solitary traveler along the road happens upon an abandoned corpse, it’s skeleton visible. In recognition of a shared connection, the traveler pays for a proper interment. The spirit of this forlorn individual, still alive, reacts in gratitude. It now becomes a friend, a protector, a guardian angel to the generous traveler.
It is our sincere certainty that each act of selfless generosity will manifest itself in the same way.
