Open Enrollment & Renewal
It's renewal and open enrollment time again. You will start to receive your 2020 plans and rates shortly.  Premiums are increasing. But premium subsidies are as well.  Based on this most folks who receive a premium subsidy will see little net increase of even a premium reduction after the discount is applied.

We will be getting detailed updates on each of you individually. As in years past, Jan & I will review your renewal for any opportunities for better coverage at a better price for you
Important Changes for Marketplace Health Insurance 2020
  • For BCBS customers in Western North Carolina - The “select" plans will not be renewed for 2020. You will be assigned a similar Advantage plan. AND you will have to re-verify your subsidy for 2020 as it will not show on your renewal
  • My Choice plans will not renew for 2020. We can help you find new coverage
  • Be sure you have reconciled your premium tax subsidy on your tax return. Both for tax year 2019 and earlier. If you have NOT done so, you may not qualify for the subsidy.
Transitional Plans:  
If you brought a plan between March 2013 and October 2014 -  you may keep this plan for 2020. 
Premium Subsidy for 2020
Rates have increased but so have the premium subsidies.  Your 2020 subsidy is based on your most recent tax return that is 2018.  If you believe your income will be different from 2018 - you may need to change in your Healthcare.gov account. Please let me know and we can help you.

Note: The income you should use for 2020 is the estimate of your modified adjusted gross - line 37 on your 1040 plus the full value of any Social Security payments.

Please verify this information with the Marketplace.  And now, if the situation arrives where we need to clarify something directly with the Marketplace, we are set up to do so.
