Comparing • Evaluating • Renewing • Enrolling
First, we will need your updated information, including responses to the questions below:
Did you reconcile your Premium Subsidy on your 2021 Tax Return?
Renewal of Your Health Insurance Plan & Premium Subsidy
In early October you will receive a Renewal Rate Notice from your current insurance company . This will specify what your current plan will cost in 2023 if there are no changes. But the premium subsidy is the amount listed for 2022 plan year and NOT the new 2023 calculation. Insurance companies are required to send this early. The new calculation for 2023 will be available only as open enrollment starts (November 1, 2022).
APTC for 2023- Your Estimated Income
Your Premium Subsidy is based on your "Modified Adjusted Gross Income" for all of 2023. We'll estimate your income for next year and arrive at your discount. When you do your 2023 income tax next year, the IRS will reconcile the estimate with the actual and adjust accordingly.
The subsidy is calculated based off the cost of the second lowest Silver plan premium.Likely, that premium will see a decrease in 2023. And since you have gotten a year older, your premium after the discount may have increased.
NOW, MORE TIME TO DECIDE
For this year- the enrollment period has been extended to January 15, 2023. Apply or renew your policy by December 15 - your new coverage will begin on January 1, 2023.
If you need more time to decide, circumstances changed, or you just plain forgot- apply by January 15th for February 1st effective.
SO MANY CHOICES..!
2023 will be a challenge- especially here in western North Carolina where we have so many choices. As your trusted and experienced agents, we will advise you on the best possible plan for you, your needs and budget.
