The Trout Insurance Mural is Done!

We have painted a mural on the north face of the building -  It is a NEW focal point in Weaverville.

The theme of the piece: "From day to night, we've got you covered."
 
Our artist is Roxanne Turpen -  she grew up in Weaverville, attended North Buncombe High School, and later UNC- Chapel Hill.

Main Street’s Newest Mural, Part of a Growing Trend

Driving through downtown Weaverville, a new mural painting is visible on the exterior of Trout Insurance, located across the street from Well Bred. Jan and Dave Trout asked Weaverville native, Roxanne Turpen, if she could paint a scene that would reflect the area as well as their services. “We wanted a sense of identity around the new office,” says Jan “and a beautiful mural made sense.”

After a week on scaffolding using brushes and custom blended exterior paint from Lowe’s, a 21’ mountain stream now flows across the colorful exterior. A camping scene with children at play graces the far left, with Blue Spruce trees and a milky way sky; as you move along the mountains towards the right, the day gets brighter, passing through fields, blackberry vines, local wildflowers and a small mountain town. A cheery sunrise fills the upper right corner.

“From day to night, we’ve got you covered” artist Roxanne Turpen says is the theme of the painting. “I wanted to paint a peaceful scene that illustrates the sense of security that Trout Insurance can provide.” says Roxanne. “It also has a folk-artsy style that feels very natural for an Appalachian setting.”

Roxanne says her mural is part of a growing nationwide trend with brick and mortar businesses commissioning muralists- many of whom are bringing new life to downtown areas. “Not only is it a great way for any business to show off their products and personality, but it delivers long-lasting impact.”

Jan Trout from Trout Insurance says “Roxanne added so many special touches to the painting that really made it unique to us. We just love it!”

Roxanne currently lives in Los Angeles, CA and works as a freelance artist and photographer. She attended North Buncombe High School followed by UNC Chapel Hill where she studied photojournalism and studio art. She returns to Weaverville 2-3 times a year.
